Greetings from your Board!
Your Board of Directors felt like this was a good time to communicate with our members about the condition and future of WTPA. We are very excited to report that the WTPA Foundation has surpassed a milestone of $500,000, and it is our goal to continue growing this fund. The earnings from this fund, along with our earnings from our annual convention, allow us to award in excess of $30,000 annually in scholarships to qualified pharmacy students interested in pursuing their careers in West Texas. Much of our good fortune is due directly to members, families and other business entities that have created permanently-endowed scholarships through generous contributions to our Foundation. We encourage anyone with an interest in furthering the profession of pharmacy in West Texas to consider creating a permanently-endowed scholarship. A tax-deductible contribution of $20,000, which can be paid in installments, will create a $1,000 annual scholarship that would be awarded in perpetuity. Creating an endowed scholarship from your estate is the perfect way to establish an enduring legacy for you, your family or company.
Over the last several years, we have had individuals, families, local associations and businesses contribute $1,000 scholarships at our annual conventions. These contributions are timely and valuable to the students and are very much appreciated. The scholarship committee encourages anyone to create a scholarship to be given at our upcoming spring convention. If you need any information about scholarships, don’t hesitate to contact any board member or you can view the scholarship section on our website.
Our 2020 convention and seminar will be in Amarillo March 6-8 at the Holiday Inn Amarillo West Medical Center. We always look forward to this time of fellowship with our friends and colleagues, engaging and informative continuing education, and most of all, the awarding of scholarships to pharmacy students who are the bright future of our wonderful profession. All of us on the board are excited to be going back to Amarillo, and again expect this convention to be one of our best ever. We will be updating our website, www.westtexaspharmacy.org, with additional information about the meeting as it becomes available. Put this date on your calendar. If you have ever attended one of our conventions, you know how much fun it will be.
Lastly, your board members would like to take this opportunity to extend a “BIG” thank you for your continued support of WTPA. Frankly, without your support, pharmacy in West Texas would be taking a back seat to the rest of the state. We welcome all of our members back and look forward to seeing you in Amarillo!
